چکیده

conclusions regular consumption of various fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and beans, sprouts and seeds is an effective and safe way to meet all antioxidant requirements in physically active persons and athletes. results it seems that the best recommendations regarding antioxidants and exercise are having a balanced diet rich in natural antioxidants and phytochemicals. evidence acquisition in this review, we aimed to summarize current evidence in relation to antioxidant supplementation outcomes during exercise and physical activity. for this aim, we obtained relevant articles through searches of the medline and pubmed databases between 1980 to 2013. although major studies have indicated that antioxidants could attenuate biomarkers of exercise-induced oxidative stress and the use of antioxidant supplement is a common phenomenon among athletes and physically active people, there are some doubts regarding the benefits of these. context overproduction of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species during physical exercise, exercise induced oxidative stress and antioxidant supplementation is interesting and controversial concepts that have been considered during the past decades.

Exercise, oxidative stress, and antioxidants: a review.

Elemental and gaseous oxygen presents a conundrum in that it is simultaneously essential for and potentially destructive to human life. Traditionally the ability to consume large volumes of oxygen has been assumed to be totally beneficial to the organism. In the past 10 years it has become clear that oxygen radicals are generated even during normal resting metabolism. Nevertheless, such radical...

Oxidative stress and antioxidants in exercise.

Increased aerobic metabolism during exercise is a potential source of oxidative stress. In muscle, mitochondria are one important source of reactive intermediates that include superoxide (O2*-), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and possibly hydroxyl radical (HO*). The recent discovery that mitochondria may generate nitric oxide (NO*) also has implications for oxidant production and mitochondrial funct...

Dietary antioxidants and exercise.

Muscular exercise promotes the production of radicals and other reactive oxygen species in the working muscle. Growing evidence indicates that reactive oxygen species are responsible for exercise-induced protein oxidation and contribute to muscle fatigue. To protect against exercise-induced oxidative injury, muscle cells contain complex endogenous cellular defence mechanisms (enzymatic and non-...

Suicidal oxidative stress induced by certain antioxidants.

Well known antioxidants-coumarins (7,8-dihydroxy-4-methyl coumarin-DHMC and 7,8-diacetoxy-4-methyl coumarin-DAMC) and flavonoids (quercetin-Q and quercetin penta-acetate-QPA) were investigated for their pro-oxidant effects in two human tumor cell lines. The breast carcinoma cell line (MDA-MB-468) was found to be more sensitive to treatment by the drugs-DAMC, Q and QPA at 10 microM than the glio...

Oxidative stress, circulating antioxidants, and dietary preferences in songbirds.

Oxidative stress is an unavoidable consequence of metabolism and increases during intensive exercise. This is especially problematic for migratory birds that metabolize fat to fuel long-distance flight. Birds can mitigate damage by increasing endogenous antioxidants (e.g. uric acid) or by consuming dietary antioxidants (e.g. tocopherol). During flight, birds may increase protein catabolism of l...
